The NKU SEM Laboratory provides a full range of SEM and XRD services for a variety of customers in the Biological and Material Sciences.  We are available to consult with a wide variety of customers, and have experience working on a variety of applications using SEM from Archaeology, to Food Science, to Zoology.  We can prepare a wide variety of organic and inorganic samples. Our laboratory is fully furnished, with a variety of sample preparation and safety equipment. We are located just 8 miles from downtown Cincinnati in Highland Heights, Kentucky.

In addition to providing services, our microscopes are available to qualified researchers on an hourly basis.  People wishing to use our instrumentation for the first time are required to attend a 4 hour training session, and must complete an practical examination prior to obtaining a user account.  This service is only available to researchers with experience using electron microscopes, who need refresher on our SEM.  It is not a general course for the novice.  The Biology department offers a course every spring (Bio-455) in Scanning Electron Microscopy for those interested in learning about electron microscopes.

Pricing is structured in two tiers.  University and non-profit customers are billed for SEM at a flat rate of $35/hour.  Private companies are billed at $135/hour for standard SEM/ESEM imaging and x-ray microanalysis.  Additional supplies, when applicable are charged on a cost basis.  XRD analysis requires a per-sample preparation charge of either $3 or $12 (university/private), plus an hourly rate on the instrument of $35 (university) or $65 (private).

Contact us for more information on rates and services.  If you have a specific project need, we would be happy to prepare a cost estimate.
